As a photographer, there are certain moments that define your career, and this is one of mine. I am beyond thrilled to share that I had the incredible opportunity to shoot Rammstein for Oor, the biggest music magazine in the Netherlands. This was my first time working with Oor, and the experience was nothing short of exhilarating.

The Build-Up

The excitement began long before the concert. Meeting friends both before and during the show added to the anticipation. The excitement of fellow fans and photographers always makes such events special. Despite the heavy rain that initially drenched us, the sky eventually cleared up, revealing a stunning rainbow behind the stage – the perfect setup

The Concert

Rammstein did not disappoint. Known for their explosive performances, they set Goffertpark ablaze with their energy and pyrotechnics. The review on Oor described it perfectly: "Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And where there’s fire, there’s Rammstein"【Roel Peijs】. The band, led by frontman Till Lindemann, powered through their setlist with precision and intensity, delivering a show that was both familiar and awe-inspiring.

The Photography Experience

The photography experience was a total rollercoaster. As the first song began, my camera suddenly gave me an error, causing a moment of panic. Thankfully, I managed to fix it quickly. I had rented a new telephoto lens for more precise close-ups, because the photo pit was so far from the stage. For overview shots, I also used my Canon 24-70 2.8.

The photo pit was actually the B stage, where they performed only one song before we were allowed on there. The show had great lighting, which helped immensely for the pictures. Despite the distance, I’m really pleased with the results, especially since it was my first time shooting from so far away.

Legal Limitations and Sharing the Experience

Due to legal reasons, I can’t publish the photos from this shoot on my own website. However, you can see some of my shots and read the full Rammstein review on Oor’s website. <— Check it out here.

Highlights from the Review

The review on Oor captures the essence of the concert beautifully. It highlights how Rammstein, despite the recent controversies surrounding Lindemann, delivered a show that was as powerful as ever. The performance included iconic moments like the burning pram during "Puppe," the flaming arch during "Du Riechst So Gut," and Lindemann’s self-deprecating humor during "Pussy" when he sprayed the front rows with foam from a giant steel penis. The band’s synchronization of music and visual effects remains impeccable, even if a bit predictable.

Reflecting on the Opportunity

Shooting for Oor has been a significant milestone in my photography journey. It’s a testament to the importance of perseverance, passion, and always being ready for that one moment that can change everything. The rain, the rainbow, the rush of adrenaline – it all came together to create a memory I will cherish forever.

Stay tuned for more updates and stories from behind the lens. However, I am also debating to use this blog to share my art journey (if you didn’t know yet, I also draw!) and maybe behind the scenes during photoshoots / festivals. Would this be something you would be interested in? Let me know in the comment section! Other ideas are also more than welcome.

An Unforgettable Encounter: Capturing Moments Beyond Words in Paris

As the bustling sounds of clinking glasses and lively chatter filled the air of the Parisian restaurant, my friend excused herself to take an important business call. Left alone at the table, I observed the world passing by…

A waft of smoke caught my attention as I sat outside a charming Parisian restaurant. The owner, seated nearby, piqued my curiosity. Despite my limited French, I decided to strike up a conversation. We shared a few laughs, and despite the language barrier, we managed to bridge the communication gap.

A Serendipitous Meeting

A waft of smoke caught my attention as I sat outside a charming Parisian restaurant. The owner, seated nearby, piqued my curiosity. Despite my limited French, I decided to strike up a conversation. We shared a few laughs, and despite the language barrier, we managed to bridge the communication gap.

The Spark of Curiosity

In the midst of our broken conversation, his eyes rested upon my camera. I could see a spark of curiosity ignite within him as he gestured towards it, a question written on his face. As I fumbled to convey that I was a photographer, his eyes lit up, and he made a simple request: a portrait.

Capturing His Essence

Eager to oblige, I adjusted my camera settings and found the perfect angle to capture his rugged and charismatic features. With a click, the moment was immortalized. Handing him the camera, I watched as anticipation filled his eyes. His smile widened as he saw his portrait, revealing a gratitude that transcended any language barriers. He thanked me profusely, mentioning that no one had ever taken a professional portrait of him before.

Make it stand out

Handing him the camera, I watched anticipation fill his eyes as he glanced at his portrait. His smile widened, revealing a gratitude that transcended any language barriers. He thanked me profusely, remarking that no one had ever taken a professional portrait of him before.

A Gesture of Gratitude

In a touching display of gratitude, the owner retrieved a bracelet from his pocket and placed it around my wrist. This simple encounter encapsulated the essence of photography – the ability to communicate beyond words and capture the essence of a person in a single frame.

@ Carrousel du Louvre

Paris is definitely one of my favourite cities in Europe. The architecture everywhere is ethereal, and it seems like every building has its own story. This picture above was taken by my friend at the Carrousel du Louvre; unfortunately, the museum itself was closed this particular day. Reason enough to take another train back soon for a proper museum visit. have you been to experience, and what do you think of the city?
